BOY SCOUT NEWS

The Boy Scouts of America was founded in 1910, inspired by the Scouting movement begun by Robert Baden-Powell in England, and has since helped shape generations of young men through outdoor adventure, leadership training, and community service. Central to the program is the Scout Oath and Law, which calls each Scout to be trustworthy, loyal, helpful, and “reverent,” reminding them to be faithful in their religious duties and respectful of the beliefs of others.

Here in Michigan City, Troop 871 has been serving and mentoring Scouts since 1994, guiding young men in character and leadership development and celebrating more than 38 Eagle Scouts—several of whom are members of this church—who exemplify the highest ideals of Scouting.

LADIES: MARK YOUR CALENDARS!

All women and friends of St. John’s are invited to our Women’s Guild meetings the third Wednesday of each month. Our opening meeting of 2026 will be March 18th in the Youth Lounge at 1 p.m.  At this meeting we will be planning our projects and programs for this year. Women are reminded that the Guild is assisting in the “Sanctuary Clean-Up Day” on March 10th where we will get our church ready for Easter followed by a free lunch together at 11:30. If you have questions about any of the Guild’s initiatives, ask Meredith, Karen or Judy.

MARCH — RED CROSS MONTH

March is Red Cross Month, a time when we honor people who turn compassion into action.  Our Church has been involved with this organization for over 50 years, collecting blood on the first Tuesday of the month. One person who was a very devout blood donor was Bob Rumsey, a past member of our church.  He was respectfully referred to as “Captain Blood,” due to his ability to recruit many students (as he was a high school teacher) to become blood donors.  He was the organizer of many blood drives at St. Johns’s. He served on the Red Cross Board and most proud of being a member of the “25-Gallon Club.”

The next collection is Tuesday, March 3rd, from noon to 6:00 p.m. Please consider being a donor so we can continue to turn our compassion into action!
