IMPORTANT DATES

The Bridge Team will meet today at noon and again on Sunday, October 5th at noon.  The October Board meeting has been changed to Thursday, October 16th at 6:30 p.m.

MISSION STATEMENT CHANGE

The Bridge Team used the information gathered during our small group discussions held in July, as well as the feedback from the written surveys, to formulate a new mission statement for our church.  This was recommended by our coach for the transition process.  We tried to incorporate the old mission statement and make the new one more specific to our church.  Our board approved the following mission statement at their last meeting:  The mission of St. John’s Church is “To foster spiritual growth through engaging worship, Bible-based teaching, and acts of service, that positively impact our church and greater community.”  Thank you for trusting us with this task and thank you for your input!

WOMEN’S GUILD BLESSING BAG PROJECT

The Women’s Guild wishes to thank St. John’s members and friends for supporting the “Blessing Bag” project.  Fifty-two bags were assembled and will be given to the homeless shelter and Salvation Army for our neighbors in need!

PRESCHOOL NEWS AND NEEDS

St. John’s Preschool started on Sept. 4th & 5th.  There are 18 children in the Pre-K class and 10 children in the Beginners class.  The children were very excited and anxious to come to school!

Both classes are learning school procedures and have already mastered walking in a line. They love playing on the playground and in the Fellowship Hall. The Pre-K class colored self-portraits, and the Beginners class fingerpainted red apples. Their art work is displayed in the hallway for everyone to admire.

The first field trip will be to Garwood Orchard, October 2nd & 3rd.  The Michigan City Fire Department will visit each class in October. Thank you to all who donated to the Preschool!  We appreciate your continued generosity and support!

CAN YOU HELP?

The Women’s Guild has received a letter from our local Salvation Army stating an urgent need and asking if we could contribute any financial assistance before October.  They are seeing a 60% increase in the number of citizens they are serving compared to a few years ago.  The Guild will be sending our contribution and wanted the congregation to be aware of this need also.  (Their letter is posted on the bulletin board.)

“JAM” (JESUS AND ME) YOUTH

Any child (ages 4–10) in La Porte County is welcome to attend our JAM (“Jesus and Me”) Sunday School program. Attendance is flexible and parents do not have to be members of the church. Meet in the school hallway from 8:20 – 9:30 a.m. on any Sunday of the year. Children enjoy Bible lessons, songs, crafts, activities, and snacks.
