WOMEN’S GUILD MEETING

Mark your calendars for the Wednesday, August 20th Guild meeting at 12:30 p.m. CST. First, we’ll enjoy a free lunch together, and then we will work on a church service project. We will clean and disinfect areas and materials for the Preschool, getting everything ready for the new school year. All women are invited to join us.

MCCU (MICHIGAN CITY CHURCHES UNITING) PICNIC

The MCCU Picnic will be on Sunday, August 24th, at 1:00 p.m. CST, at Creek Ridge Park, Novak Pavilion.

CELEBRATION FOR PASTOR BILL AND SARAH

The New Edition Fellowship Group would like to invite church members and friends to celebrate Pastor Bill’s retirement with refreshments in the Fellowship Hall on Sunday, August 31st, immediately following his last service with us. You may bring cards, gifts, stories, or fond memories to share. We look forward to seeing you there!

PASTOR’S MEMENTOS

There is a table in the narthex with items that Pastor Bill will not be taking with him when he retires. He has generously offered them to any church member who might like them. Help yourself to a memento or two!

DEACON’S AND BENEVOLENCE FUNDS UPDATE

Regarding St. John’s Deacon’s and Benevolence Funds, St. John’s will no longer be passing out any cards for assistance. Instead, we will serve the community by working with the Homeless coalition and helping them financially until a new pastor is hired. Any community organizations that call for assistance will be directed to Nicole and she will make the decision whether or not to assist. Any Deacon’s request (church members needing assistance) will be directed to Jerry Montgomery. Any questions or uncertain situations will be directed to Jerry Montgomery.

CAN YOU HELP?

The Women’s Guild has received a letter from our local Salvation Army stating an urgent need and asking if we could contribute any financial assistance before October. They are seeing a 60% increase in the number of citizens they are serving compared to a few years ago. The Guild will be sending our contribution and wanted the congregation to be aware of this need also. (Their letter is posted on the bulletin board.)

BLESSING BAGS

We are still in need of items for our Blessing Bags––bars of soap, deodorant, toothpaste, socks. This collection will conclude about the first of September.  Some of these completed bags will go to the Salvation Army. Thank you for your support and prayers to these initiatives.

NEW EDITION FELLOWSHIP PAINT PARTY –– YOU’RE INVITED!

We are holding a Bible-themed paint party on Friday, September 5th, from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. CST in the Fellowship Hall. The cost is $25 per person if you register by August 1st and $30 thereafter. Contact Amy Hancock at (812) 236-1163 to register.  Please bring a “finger food” dish to share! See you there!

“JOYFUL SOUNDS” CHOIR INVITATION

Jennifer is looking for singers and instrumentalists to help lead worship starting in September. We will rehearse during the month of August. If you want to “make a joyful noise” with us, please email Jennifer at musicjenkeeley@yahoo.com for details!
