LONGTIME MEMBERS ST. JOHN’S MEMORIES

(This is an installment for the month of May that will highlight longtime members’ reminiscences)

“Since I have been involved with the choir for many years, I remember when the church’s cornerstone was dedicated on Sunday, May 19th, 1968, outside the front door. The choir sang, which I was a part of and our director was Barbara Smith.”  – Dale Schultz

WILL YOU HELP US?

The Women’s Guild announces that the Blessing Bag project is now under way.  The Nest homeless shelter and Salvation Army will receive these bags to give our homeless neighbors here in Michigan City.  Blessing bags are gallon plastic bags which are filled with personal items:

  • a pair of socks (men’s or women’s)
  • washcloth
  • bar of soap
  • toothbrush
  • toothpaste
  • deodorant
  • wipes, tissues or lotion.

If you can donate an item, just place it in our donation basket.  If you want us to shop for you, any financial donation is appreciated.  Thank you for any donations and prayers for this project.

LADIES: MARK YOUR CALENDARS!

The May Women’s Guild meeting will be held on May 20th at 12 noon because we are providing a lunch––Sloppy Joe sandwiches plus all the sides. This will be followed by a short business meeting and then our annual bingo game. Hope to see you there.

ASCENSION THURSDAY SERVICES, 6 a.m. 11:00 a.m. & 6 p.m.

Please plan to attend an Ascension Thursday service which will be held in the Chapel on Thursday, May 14th.

GUESS WHO?

All the wedding pictures submitted of our members are on display in the library. Can you guess who these people are? Leave your answers in the marked container on the display table until the 17th and the answers will be revealed at our luncheon whether you can attend or not.

ST. JOHN’S ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION

Even though our celebration for our church is important during the month of  May we also need to observe our two other important dates. Mother’s Day to recognize and show appreciation to our Mother’s past and present and Memorial Day—for the men and w omen who lost their lives fighting for our country.

A Memorial Day Tribute:

“As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter the words, but to live by them.”

ANNIVERSARY OFFERING

If you would like to include a 170th anniversary offering, there are blank white envelopes available on the table in the narthex to include your anniversary offering together with your name.

LUNCHEON REMINDER

Just a reminder of our catered luncheon next Sunday, May 17th, following our church service. Good food, fun, and entertainment by “Go Figure!” Barber Shop Quartet.
