WELCOME, JOHN CARINGTON!
We wish to extend a warm St. John’s welcome to our guest organist for today, Mr. John Carington. Thank you for helping to make our worship service so beautiful, uplifting, and inspiring!
NOTE FROM JOHN CARINGTON
To the people of St. John’s, thank you for inviting me to serve as your organist in worship today.
In this Easter season, as we reflect on the resurrection and the movement from death into life, from sickness to health, or from fear to redemption, I’ve chosen a simple prelude and postlude that trace a simple arc from quiet contemplation to triumphant affirmation.
For the Prelude, I have selected the “Largo” from Xerxes in G major by George Frideric Handel. Heard in many settings—from piano to chamber ensembles—its simple, sustained lines evoke a feeling of renewal through peace and grace. For the Postlude, I have chosen Bruce Steane’s Marche Triomphale. I first encountered this work in a recording on the great Kern organ of the Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Strasbourg, and have since come to appreciate it on many fine instruments. Written in the French symphonic organ tradition—shaped by geographic and cultural heritage in which French and German influences meet—it opens with breadth and joyful confidence. A brief contrasting middle section follows before its full return. For the Easter season, I feel it serves as a fitting conclusion: a reminder that the movement of resurrection leads toward life, renewal, and light.

Bruce Carr is leaving soon for a mission trip to the Amazons; he goes in June & January for the next few years to train new leaders to evangelize and start churches throughout the three frontiers Amazon region. Your help in prayer and giving is requested and is very greatly appreciated!
LADIES: MARK YOUR CALENDARS!
The May Women’s Guild meeting will be held on May 20th at 12 noon because we are providing a lunch––Sloppy Joe sandwiches plus all the sides. This will be followed by a short business meeting and then our annual bingo game. Hope to see you there.
